Musical Biography of Garo Gagliano

Garo Gagliano began playing Trombone at age 9, spending his formative years studying under the masterful guidance of George Halbig, a student of the great Emory Remington, and George Johnston, Principle Trombone of the San Diego Symphony.

While his childhood dream of attending Julliard School of Music was never realized, his deep desire to achieve mastery over his instrument and perform deeply compelling music for large audiences continued to live on.  After giving-up music for over a decade to pursue a successful career in the electronics industry, Garo began playing seriously again in 1995, performing with assorted orchestras throughout the Bay Area.  In 1999 he was awarded the position of Principle Trombone with the Redwood Symphony Orchestra, and now may be seen performing regularly with the group.

Mr. Gagliano has studied a wide range of musical performance styles over the years, including not only the more traditional classical studies rooted in the Remington methodology, but he has also had extensive experience performing in jazz, rock and blues, having performed at both the Berkeley and Reno International Collegiate Jazz Festivals, as well as with various rock and blues bands throughout California.  Among his notable recent symphonic efforts are recordings of Bartok’s  "Concerto for Orchestra" and Richard Strauss’ "Till Eulenspiegel"  with the Redwood Symphony Orchestra available thru Amazon.com on the Redwood Label.   Also notable is his well received recent performance of Hindemith’s “Sonate for Trombone and Piano”,  accompanied by award winning pianist Clint Cancio; and his performances of Frank Martin's "Concerto for 7-Winds and Percussion", and his Mozart Tuba Mirum recently recorded in live performance with Master Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra.  Upcoming  projects for Garo include a yet to be scheduled spring Brass Chamber Recital with the Los Altos Brass Quintet, and a performance of Grondahl’s "Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra" scheduled for April 2003 with the Redwood Symphony Orchestra.  He hope to continue his collaborative efforts with pianist Clint Cancio by making another  guest appearance together at the Annual Redwood Chamber Concert in June 2003.  Mr.  Gagliano is also working on producing a solo album effort, which he hopes to complete sometime later in the year.

His current musical coaches include George Johnston, member of the San Diego Opera Orchestra and long time mentor and friend, Mark Lawrence, Principle Trombone of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, and Tony Collins, San Francisco/Bay Area free-lance artist.  Garo currently lives in Foster City, CA, with his cat Gina-Davis and a rather extensive science fiction collection, where he is employed during the day as a Network Engineer.
